Be A Savvy Consumer!
First off, prepaid cell phone services are no longer just for people with bad credit! Many years ago this was the ONLY way someone with no credit or bad credit could get a cell phone. The rates were high and the cell phones on the network old and outdated.
Now prepaid cell phone service is more desirable then post paid. Why?
- No long contract
- No credit checks
- Service is just as good as post paid accounts
- Service plans can be BETTER than some post paid plans!
So know that you know the benefits associate with having a prepaid cell phone account. You are probably wondering about how to choose a phone.
Do you know anyone who does not have a cell phone? Chances are, there are very few people that do not own this great piece of technology. Cell phones are so popular because they can do so much. The first thing you need to consider is your budget!
Whats Your Phone Budget?
I now, you were expecting me to say make a list of the features you need. But as cell phone service plans have dropped in price. Cell phones have gone up! Many people stay in a long contract, over paying for their phone and service plans because the carrier is willing to finance a phone for them.
But why go in debt over a phone? Consider purchasing a used phone if you are looking to upgrade before your contract allows you to. This is often less expensive than buying new, and you will not be locked in to a specific contract period. Just make sure your provider supports the phone you want to buy, and that you can easily add it to your plan.
Buying Closeout cell phones
You may also want to consider buying last years model. When the new iphone comes out, the old one that just the day before was almost $700 will drop down to half that! So if you only want new. Think about buying an older model. We get great discounts on smart phones, especially when the newest model comes out or perhaps the manufacturer simply decides not to sell that particular model. These phones are brand new and at rock bottom prices. Join our Facebook group to see what we have available.
To extend the battery life of your cellphone, make sure that apps are not running in the background at all times. Some apps will continue to run unless you disable them, and this can drain your battery quickly. Check your settings to see what you need to do in order to turn these apps off and make your battery last longer.
Screen Size Matters
If you stream a lot of videos. Then you want a large screen. I got the Iphone 6s because I didn’t want a HUGE phone. But I do stream a lot of video and have to admit I like to watch movies on my nephews iphone 6plus. Yes, both older phones, that work great and we got a discount! Thank you very much!
Android vs Apple
There are a lot of people who will say applie is better than andriod and vice a versa. Look at both systems and make a decision based on what you want in a phone system. Some people love the fact that there are SOOOO many different types of Android phones. While many people in the Apple camp are die hard Apple users. Everything in their home is Apple. They also swear that Apple phones are more intuitive to use. And how it interacts seamlessly with other Apple products is worth the price.
Droid users say the SAME EXACT THING. Its all a matter of taste. Why did I go with an iphone? I let my nephew pick it. I just needed an unlocked phone since I travel overseas a lot. I wanted to be able to pop the sim card out when I wasn’t in the US. That was my one, “Must Have”. Well I also needed something with GREAT battery life. And he told me the Iphone was better (at the time) then the Samsung.
These phones are constantly evolving. So do your research before you buy. And if you still can’t decide. Why not try the Google pixel LOL. My point is there are a lot of options on the market.
Don’t Forget About Your Battery
Do you use facetime or skype alot? Make sure you choose a phone with a good battery life. I use Facetime a lot. More then I actually use the regular phone. I like being able to see what everyone is up too LOL. But there is a price. Reduced battery life. If you are like most people, you keep a charger in the car and at your desk at work.
Protect Your Investment
Nothing sucks more than dropping your phone and shattering it. If you don’t have insurance you are stuck with it. Take the time to not only get the insurance on your phone, but get one of the glass shield face protectors. It really works to protect your phone. If you drop it the glass shield shatters and not your phone. You just peel it off and replace it. Now if you drop your phone in water, or into a hot grill by accident and can’t fish it out fast enough…..well that is where the insurance will kick in!
Choose The Right Cell Phone Plan
Understand your prepaid cell phone plan. These plans can be rather complex between data allowances, total talk minutes, text messaging, and international rates. Keep an eye out for the fees. Like some plans have an additional fee if you are going to use your cell phone as a hotspot. While there are a lot that don’t. How much data do you REALLY use. Call your cell phone company and see what your 3 month average is. I’ve only recently started to use up my full data plan. While my nephew goes over his allotement each month. For him we switched him to the New Sprint plan that gives you 50 GIGs of 4G service. Now he can game to his hearts delight!
